THE "SOCIETA' ECONOMICA DI CHIAVARI" THE “ ILLUSTRATED DIARIES” by Alberto Salietti

The Società Economica of Chiavari, besides other works of art, also has in its keeping the papers onto which Alberto Salietti recorded the images which caught his artistic eye, between 1935 and 1960. Each folio shows a variety of aspects and emotions which give proof of his observations and ability to transmit them to us.They form a “diary” as Salietti called them of his daily observations and meditations. The pictorial “diaries” contain 38 sheets of drawings 160 cm x 215 cm. The first page bears the date: July 1935; the last one, numbered no. 38 of the 11th September 1960. Alberto Salietti died in Chiavari a year later, on the 19th September 1961; in the city which he often illustrated in the pages of his “diaries”. They were donated to the Società Economica in 1981 after the death of Lydia, his wife, who is also portrayed on those pages. Great pleasure is derived by those who appreciate their artistic maturity and lyricism. The Società Economica now allows us to look through these diaries using a computer screen. They will thus be seen in this manner also in a future exhibition , together with other works.
