|

|
This exhibition can be seen for the time being on the second floor of the building in via Ravaschieri 15, while awaiting a more suitable placing. The collection is composed of over two hundred works of art namely: paintings, sculptures and drawings. They date from the end of the fifteenth century to the present day. The last period contains works by artists born in Chiavari or who have lived here for years; as for example: the painters Gaetano Previati, Alberto Salietti, Lino Perissinotti, Emanuele Rambaldi and the sculptors Francesco Falcone, Rodolfo Castagnino, Piero Solari, Guido Galletti, Santiago Cogorno and Roberto Ersanilli. It is significant to see paintings and drawings by Giuseppe Raggio, the Chiavari artist who did a lot of his work in the Lazio countryside. The oldest period is represented by two interesting paintings by Flemish artists: Lamenting Christ from the school of Quentin Metsys and Collector’s Cabinet by Frans Francken II. There are also two paintings attributed to Alessandro Magnasco; a Madonna with Child from the Genoa school connected to Van Dyck and paintings of the seventeenth century of the Bologna schools. The collection also contains numerous portraits, drawings, engravings, illustrations, hand-bills and lastly the original “Illustrated Diaries” by Alberto Salietti.
